The consumer protection authority and competition defense (ACODECO) has carried out three competence laws, to promote the culture of free competition in the national market.
Competition law is a mechanism used by competence agencies globally, to promote free competition in economic activity through studies, special reports and opinions, whose purpose is to strengthen knowledge by the State and society of the benefits of free competition in the markets.
In this way, the last three lawyer reports of the competence carried out by the ACODECO, such as:
- Impact of the 9th clause, of the concession contracts numbers 71-13, 69-13 and 70-13, between the National Public Services Authority (ASEP) and concession companies for the distribution and commercialization of electricity, in the process of free economic competition and free concurrence “
- Report related to roasted coffee contingent established by the Cabinet Decree n. ° 5 of March 5, 2021.
- The good practices of free economic competition and free concurrence within the framework of activities regulated by Law 56 of August 6, 2008 General of Portos de Panama.
In each of these reports, technical studies have been submitted, as well as conclusions and recommendations in each of these activities, in order to improve or correct situations that can affect free competition among several economic agents of the same activity.
The ACODECO has among its functions in accordance with Law 45 of October 31, 2007, article 86, numeral 5, must carry out law of free competition before economic agents, associations, educational institutions, non -profit entities, organizations of the organizations of the civil society and public administration, through which it may recommend, through legal technical reports, the adoption or modification of any procedure or requirement of some sector of the national economy or conduct studies in order to promote and strengthen competition in the market.
It should be noted that, in this year, the XV Anniversary of the National Day of Free Competition is celebrated, as provided by Executive Decree No. 2 of January 12, 2011, through which the celebration was declared on February 1 of this day, to carry out activities that promote and exalt the values and principles of free competition, through the various media and other activities.
