The Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco) during a night operation carried out in supermarkets throughout the country, detected multiple irregularities.
According to preliminary figures, the most frequently found anomaly was the sale of 1,333 expired products, 303 without an expiration date, 646 damaged products, 35 items with an unclear date, 178 products with no visible prices, 78 products that did not meet the scanner (price different from the one registered at the cash desk and the one announced on the product or shelf).
The general administrator of Acodeco, Jorge Quintero Quirós, expressed that the objective of this night operation is to verify that the products, mainly those with the highest consumption at this time, comply with consumer protection regulations, for which he calls on the economic agents to keep the products they sell in good condition, reviewing the expiration dates, prices, calibrated scales and other aspects that are controlled.
He reiterated that Acodeco always accompanies the consumer in their purchases, maintaining customer service modules in shopping centers such as Albrook Mall, Metro Mall, Multiplaza and Los Andes Mall, as well as customer service in the main provincial capitals.
Among the verified products are: hams, turkeys, chicken pavi, chicken hams, rum punch, mixed vegetables, sweet peas, canned pigeon peas, pineapple juices, sliced pineapples, dried fruits, grapes, pears, apples, mayonnaise, packed eggs, olives, capers, nougat, dates, cookies, chocolates, fruit jam, bagels, among others.
