For several weeks, the Authority for Consumer Protection and Defense of Competition (Acodeco) has carried out various price control and marketing margin verification operations, and this Wednesday, August 31, they continued this practice.
The general manager of Acodeco, Jorge Quintero, explained that there are between 15% and 20% of anomalies where the products that are part of the basic food basket are not found. At the same time, he indicated that, if the economic agent does not sell the product, he does not have to have it in the price control if he does not sell it, “we are not obliged for the economic agent to sell it, but if he does sell it he has to have it with the top price of decree 13 or with the indicated marketing margin, which is between 15% and 20%”.
Quintero highlighted that to date 30% of businesses have been visited, for which they have requested the support of the governors of the provinces to carry out the operations.
He indicated that the fines placed on businesses depend on the size of the company and recidivism.
Meanwhile, the Governor of the province of Panama, Carla García Bo, who participated in the operation this Wednesday, explained that two weeks ago, she made a tour with Acodeco in six districts of the 8-3 circuit.
“Today we are going to comb four districts that would be Río Abajo, San Francisco, Pueblo Nuevo and Parque Lefevre. We are with the technical board that gives us support. As governors we must ensure compliance with the laws and decrees,” he commented.
