CDMX, Mexico. – In its November 12 edition of the official newspaper Granma reported about a second, unusual, debate forum on Internet governance in Cuba. The publication reviews the civil actors who participated in said event: “The II Internet Governance Forum was organized by the Cuban Association of the United Nations (ACNU) and the Union of Informaticians of Cuba in coordination with other sectors of civil society in our country and with the participation of the government, academia, the community technique, state companies and the non-state sector”.
What is the ACNU?
According to your website, was created in 1947; something amazing because on the island there is not a single civil organization prior to 1959. All were eliminated in the period of the “totalitarian annihilation of politics in Cuba” (1959-1977). The ACNU is unknown to the population, and it acts financed by the Cuban kleptocracy. Its fundamental function is to praise and support all actions of the Cuban Government/State in the United Nations.
Regarding the Universal Periodic Evaluation corresponding to the year 2018, the ACNU provided in a document the paradisiacal vision that the dictatorship exports about the Cuban reality. Six examples of the statements of this organization demonstrate their fallacies:
civil and Political Rights.
1- “They are guaranteed around the legal order that exists in Cuba, which recognizes and protects the exercise of civil and political, cultural, economic and social rights, as well as the fundamental freedoms of all Cubans.”
2- “We highlight the importance attached not only to the protection, but also to the promotion of the rights to freedom of opinion, expression, thought and association, which have constitutional rank and have been developed in the legal system national law”.
3- “The Cuban State recognizes and respects the freedom of religion in harmony with article 54 of the Constitution of the Republic of Cuba that indicates the full exercise of religious freedom, grants churches and religious institutions and believers the freedom to celebrate their ceremonies and cults of their choice”.
4- “In Cuba there are no cases of extrajudicial executions, torture or disappearances. There is full equality of all citizens before the law, the presumption of innocence and the right to defense and a fair trial are guaranteed”.
5- “Our electoral system is the one that the Cuban people have freely chosen, in which they have been genuinely represented.”
6- “In Cuba there is a broad and effective inter-institutional system for the protection of citizen rights, in which Cuban civil society actively participates, which guarantees the attention, processing and response to complaints or requests related to respect and the exercise of rights. human rights”.
What do independent NGOs and Cuban citizens propose on social networks?
Amnesty International, Prisoners Defenders, the Cuban Observatory for Human Rights, the Cuban Foundation for Human Rights, CADAL, DemoAmlat, the Observatory for Academic Freedom (OLA), CIR, Article 19 and Cuba Decide, as well as all the independent press, point out daily violation of all human rights in Cuba.
-In Cuba it is not possible to elect political representatives. You vote, but you don’t choose.
-In Cuba, freedom of religion is systematically violated.
-There is no right to food and food insecurity remains.
-There are more than 1,000 political prisoners since July 11, 2021.
-Human rights defenders and independent journalists suffer arbitrary arrests, imprisonment and exile.
-The Electoral Law and the Penal Code have not been consulted with the population.
-Due process is not respected and the detainees do not have defense lawyers free from the dominance of the dictatorship. The judicial system is hijacked by the Communist Party of Cuba (PCC).
-Cuban jailers violate all the “Mandela Rules” of the UN. In Cuba they torture.
-The right of association exists only for organizations subordinate to the Government. Demonstrations are allowed only if promoted by the Government.
-The hijacking of mass media by the PCC produces disinformation (fake news) and hides the national and foreign reality.
-There is no cultural freedom in Cuba. All cultural institutions are kidnapped by the PCC and independent artists are imprisoned for their political criteria.
-State Security violates Cuban laws and acts arbitrarily and with impunity against citizens. It also encourages “acts of repudiation” against those who disagree.
The recent debate forum on Internet governance managed by the ACNU seeks to legitimize the Cuban kleptocracy before the UN. What actually happens is that the government limits free access to the internet at will, as well as the right to freedom of expression.
The ACNU, which supposedly has 102 Cuban civil society organizations, does not represent the citizenry, nor do the CDRs, the fmcthe CTC, the UPEC, the UNEAC, the FEU, the ANAP, the AHS, the FEEM and the UJC, all entities created and financed by the dictatorship for six decades to monitor, control and punish.
