Former military police officer Pedro Emanuel D’Onofre Andrade Silva Cordeiro, known as Pedrinho, accused of participating in the death of criminal Fernando Iggnacio, in 2020, was arrested by the Paraguayan police, in Ciudad del Este, a town that borders Foz do Iguaçu, in Paraná.
The arrest was on Friday (3), but officially announced only this Saturday (4). The arrest was carried out by the Tripartite Command of the National Police of Paraguay, in a joint investigation with the Capital Homicide Police Station (DHC) of the Civil Police of Rio de Janeiro.
Investigation
Pedrinho is named by Brazilian investigators as one of those responsible for Iggnacio’s execution, in an episode of the war between rival gangs that control the illegal gambling business in Rio de Janeiro.
Investigations showed that the prisoner was responsible for researching the victim’s routine and the type of weapon to be used in the crime. “He also carried out surveys on several other executed offenders, demonstrating a case study so that the criminal action against Fernando Iggnacio would not fail”, describes the Civil Police in the statement about the arrest.
Pedro Emanuel D’Onofre Andrade Silva Cordeiro was even denounced by the Public Ministry. He was on the run in Paraguay and was captured while initiating procedures to issue documents in the neighboring country. Paraguayan authorities suspected him when they discovered that he was using a false Brazilian document.
Execution
Fernando Iggnacio was killed when he was ambushed with rifle shots, on November 10, 2020, shortly after disembarking from a helicopter in Recreio dos Bandeirantes, in the west zone of Rio de Janeiro.
He and fellow offender Rogério Andrade were “heirs” of Castor de Andrade (who died of a heart attack in 1997) and enemies. Iggnacio was Castor’s son-in-law, and Andrade, Castor’s nephew. The dispute over control of the animal game was the reason for the murder.
On October 29, 2024, Rogério de Andrade and former military police officer Gilmar Eneas Barbosa were arrested for the crime. The warrants were issued by the Judgment of the 1st Criminal Court of the Jury Court.
The prisoner will be sent to the Brazilian Federal Police, who will be responsible for presenting him to justice in Brazil. There are two arrest warrants against him for murder, according to the Rio de Janeiro police.
