Accused of parricide asks to be sentenced to 30 years in prison

Benito Pinto, 31, agreed to be the author of the parricide of his grandmother Emiliana Mendizábal, 80, and asked the prosecutor Daniel Ortuño go to an abbreviated trial to be sentenced to 30 years prison in the Palmasola prison.

The crime was recorded on Monday, May 16 in the house -where Benito and his grandmother lived- located in the Urkupiña neighborhood, in the Pampa de la Isla area. According to the autopsy, the elderly woman died from strangulation and his body showed various signs of violence.

“He states that he participated in the act on Monday night, around midnight, and that at 6:00 a.m. he returned home and collected his grandmother’s money and other belongings. The money he stole was 1,500 bolivianos“, detailed the prosecutor.

The grandson was apprehended on Wednesday afternoon when he was in the Los Pozos area, where he intended to take a bus to Cotoca. “He was at the truffle stop in Cotoca and He indicated that he intended to go to hospital and rehabilitate himself,” added.

Prosecutor Ortuño indicated that he charged Benito Pinto with the crime of parricide and that this He expressed his willingness to go to an abbreviated trial where he received 30 years in prison, since he indicated that he was sorry for murdering his grandmother.

“He stated that he wants to take advantage of an abbreviated procedure and reject an oral trial. So he will show up tomorrow (Friday) the agreement for him to signin the presence of his defense attorney. If this agreement is signed, he would receive the maximum penalty for parricide,” the prosecutor explained.

The accusation against Benito Pinto has already been presented and his hearing is expected to take place this Friday, May 19, All that remains is for the judge to set the time.
