The two officials apprehended from the Gabriel René Moreno Autonomous University (Uagrm) They will be placed before a precautionary judge this Thursday, after being accused of an alleged embezzlement of Bs 725,000. The Prosecutor’s Office and the house of studies will request preventive detention for the accused.

Those investigated in this case are three workers from the Santa Cruz university, but only two were apprehended: an administrator and a teacher. “One refrained from testifying and the other gave his statementafter that, the arrest was ordered so that the judge is the one who defines his legal situation,” reported Jaime Saldías, head of the legal legal department of the UAGRM.

Saldías indicated that initially it is known that the investigated persons had embezzled Bs 725,000, a figure that will be reviewed, since one of the administrators confessed that he had collected money at least seven times, by cashing checks from the bank. It is presumed that the economic damage could amount to Bs 2,000,000.

“The cashier (administrative staff) claims that they wrote checks in his name, he went to the bank and collected, then he went to the office of the head of the financial administrative department and gave him all the money. He also stated that They performed this procedure on more than seven occasions”he added.

He questioned that an internal audit of the UAGRM did not detect these irregular charges by the three investigated. “For some strange reason the processes were archived Despite the fact that the complaint was filed, but (Vicente) Cuéllar immediately took office (as rector) he ordered that the case be reopened,” he said.

The two UAGRM officials who were apprehended will be brought before a precautionary judge this Thursday. The prosecution is asking pretrial detention in jail and the UAGRM supports this extreme measure, but asks that it be applied for 180 days of imprisonment.

“We are going to exhaust all the instances that we have at our disposal and present the pertinent evidence to reach the trial and have a conviction against these officials,” added Saldías.
