This Monday, June 20, the President of the Republic, Luis Lacalle Pou, received senators and deputies from the National Party at the residence of Suárez y Reyes, with the task of outlining the content of the next Rendering of Accounts and Balance of Execution Budget.
Lacalle also holds meetings with the Minister of Economy and Finance, Azucena Arbeleche, to define the investment areas that the government’s annual budget will have.
Likewise, Lacalle convened a Council of Ministers for next Monday June 27 in order to update and report on the development of social and economic policies.
The Rendering of Accounts must enter Parliament before the end of the month.
The government has handled some priorities that will contain the next budget message.
Senator Jorge Gandini expressed, after the meeting in Suárez and Reyes, that “there is fiscal compliance and economic growth above expectations, and they are good data, but it is also true that the demands are greater than the possibilities” .
These days, each organization and each coalition party will be sending their proposals to the Executive, some of which have costs, so the economic team “will add up and see the difference between availability, the fiscal deficit and what it is asked for, and then political decisions must be made.”
Priorities
Gandini said that one of the priorities is science and technology, linked to education, which he classified as an old commitment.
He added that another aspect to take into account is public safety. In addition, the parliamentarian pointed out that “the salary loss in the public sector must be corrected, which in 2021 was enshrined by Law, but the recovery by 2024 was also enshrined.”
Asked by the press about a possible reduction in the tax burden, particularly the IASS and personal income tax in the lower brackets, Gandini replied that it is an issue that the president “always has in mind.”
