According to the Pentagon, China is the main strategic competitor

The US Department of Defense delivered a classified version of its national defense strategy to the country’s Congress on Monday.

The document states that the Pentagon “will contribute to promoting and safeguarding the vital national interests” of the US, in particular, “protecting the American people” and “expanding the prosperity” of the country.

The US Defense Ministry highlighted in a statement that China is “the main strategic competitor” and “the greatest challenge”. Thus, one of the priorities for Washington is “the defense of the homeland against the growing multifaceted threat” posed by Beijing, according to the document.

According to the agency, Russia also “poses serious threats” due to “the invasion of Ukraine.” “We will collaborate with our NATO allies and partners to strengthen deterrence against Russian aggression,” the statement said.

Likewise, the US Department of Defense will face the “threats” posed by North Korea, Iran and extremist organizations.

In this context, the main objectives will be promoted through three modes: “integrated deterrence, campaigns and actions that build lasting advantages,” they stressed from the Pentagon.
