The General Directorate of Statistics and Censuses of the Government of the City of Buenos Aires (geyc) revealed, in its latest Labor Indicators report, that the unemployment rate had a year-on-year drop of 1.3% in the City.
According to the organism, the level of unemployment stood at 8.7% during the first quarter of the year; however, the geyc revealed that the figure rose 1% compared to the last quarter of last year (October-December).
In this regard, the geyc stressed that “The recovery trend of the main indicators continues, with an increase in both the activity rate and employmentand a decrease in the inactive population”.
This means that the City reaches levels similar to those reported in 2018, since economic and commercial activities have gradually been reactivated.
The report also indicates that “the salaried population with a retirement discount fell to 73.4%, 1.9 points less than in the same quarter of 2021”, while the activity rate of the resident population in CABA reached 55.3 %.
While the employment rate stood at 50.4%, which represents an increase of 2.2%, in relation to the same quarter of the previous year; which in turn reflected a decrease of 1.7% compared to October-December.
This means that, with the year-on-year increase, the employed population was 69,385 people; In addition, there was a reduction in the number of unemployed people, which reached 16,996.
The Dgeyc highlighted that there was a reduction in the gender gap at the employment level
The agency revealed that the gender gap was reduced, since for women the activity rate increased 0.2%; while the level of employment increased by 1.4% and reached 44.8%.
On the other hand, for men the employment rate was 56.9%, the activity rate 61.5%, with an increase of 3.2%.
