80% of students over 12 years of age are vaccinated against Covid-19 in Panama, a country that will inaugurate the 2022 school year next Monday under the mandatory face-to-face modality, the Ministry of Health (Minsa) reported last Friday.
In the case of children between 5 and 11 years old, vaccination against Covid-19 reaches more than 35% of this population, the health portfolio indicated in its daily report on the pandemic.
Starting next Monday, more than 950,000 students will return to classrooms after two years of distance and blended education, the latter modality that was implemented during part of last year and not in all schools, due to the Covid pandemic. -19.
The Minsa said last Friday that “to facilitate vaccination in the student population, on March 14, dose application days will be held at the primary levels, while on the 21st it will be carried out among middle and high school students” .
In Panama, a country of 4.28 million inhabitants, 7,656,317 doses of vaccines against covid have been administered, the vast majority from Pfizer and the rest from AstraZeneca.
84.7% of the target population, that is, people 5 years of age and older, have a dose of the vaccine; 74.1% with two, 50.3% with a booster dose, which applies to those over 16 years of age; while the coverage of the child population (from 5 to 11 years old) is 35.5%.
