The Dominican Republic has managed to reduce hunger by 55 percent in three years, according to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO).
According to the presidential spokesman, Homero Figueroa, the undernourishment rate also experienced a significant reduction, going from 8.3 percent in 2020 to 4.6 percent in 2023.
He said that this progress is the result of public policies focused on the most strategic sectors.
“For example, the agricultural sector, with the continued support of the Ministry of Agriculture, has maintained stable availability of essential products and increased production of key foods,” he said.
He added that the credit policies of the Agricultural Bank have also been fundamental in keeping national production above consumption. “This achievement is possible thanks to the strengthening of the school feeding program,” he said.
