Research from the Federal Highway Police (PRF) reveals that 6,160 people died and 84,526 were injured amid 73,156 traffic claims registered between January and December 2024 on the federal roads of Brazil.
The federative units that stood out negatively, according to the 2024 Yearbook released on Thursday (17), were Minas Gerais, with 794 deaths and 11,756 injured in about 9,300 traffic claims.
In Paraná, there were 607 deaths and 8,456 injured in about 7.6 thousand claims. In Santa Catarina there were 415 deaths and 8,381 injured in the more than 9,500 claims throughout the year.
Rear collisions lead the statistics of the types of claims, with 13,960 records, 16,173 injured and 634 dead. The type of vehicle in which the accidents most resulted in deaths were the tour, with 2,110 fatalities throughout the year.
Motorcycles resulted in 2,024 deaths; and 599 people died as a result of accidents involving trucks.
Types of highways
The roads with more occurrences of accidents were the BRS-101, 116 and 381.
“The PRF answered 12,778 claims on BR-101, 4,375 of them in Santa Catarina. Already in BR-116 there were 11,478 cases, most, 3,478, in sections that cut São Paulo. Third is the BR-381, with 3,469 Sinstross. Of this total, 2,793 occurred in Minas Gerais,” said the PRF.
About 35,300 occurrences were noted on simple lanes, resulting in 4,291 deaths. It was also observed that claims occurred in a larger number between Fridays and Sundays between 17h and 19h.
Infractions and crime
The yearbook also accounted for 9,483,949 infractions of infringements by 2024. “Among the most observed conducts are speeding (6,561,685), improper overtaking (301,513) and the non -use of the seat belt (216,267),” said the PRF.
Rio de Janeiro was the state in which drivers disobeyed traffic rules. There were more than 2.1 million infractions last year. In second place is São Paulo – almost 1.2 million assessments. The third position in the ranking is from Minas Gerais – 869,488 fined drivers.
The 2024 publication also details the result of crime fighting operations. 808,223 tons of marijuana were seized; 859,719 amphetamine units; 41,461.7 tons of cocaine; and 1,635.16 crack.
Finally, the survey noted the seizure of 1,648 firearms and 67,893 ammunition.
