This Wednesday (3), an accident with the Glory Elevator, a cable car that circulates through the streets of Lisbon, in Portugal, caused the death of 15 people. Due to the tragedy, the Portuguese government decreed a day of national mourning that will be fulfilled on Thursday. 
In addition to the 15 dead, the derailment left 18 injured, including a child and a pregnant woman. The accident occurred around 6 pm (14h, Brasília time), on the Calçada da Gloria. The causes are still being cleared. The Portuguese Public Prosecution Service said it has opened an inquiry to investigate the reasons for the accident.
Managed by Carris Municipal Company, the Gloria Elevator connects Praça dos Restauradores, in the Baixa region, to Bairro Alto. With a course of about 265 meters, the cable car is much sought by tourists.
According to Lusa Agency, the Crisis Management Unit of the National Institute of Emergency Medical (INEM) reported that the nationalities of the victims are not confirmed, but that there are “there are several foreign surnames”, as well as Portuguese.
Brazilians
Itamaraty reported in a statement that so far there is no record of Brazilian victims, but has expressed regret for the accident and stated that “the Brazilian government expresses its solidarity to the government and the people of Portugal.”
