Six people were injured after the clash between two vessels on the Ucayali River, near Pucallpa. The incident was recorded in a security video, where it is observed how one of the ships impacts against the other, damaging its structure.
The accident occurred when one of the pilots tried to maneuver to avoid collision, but failed to dodge the impact. As a consequence, a crewman fell into the water and was rescued by passengers. On board the affected boat, children and older adults were traveling from Contemana, Loreto, to Pucallpa.
The clash generated moments of panic among the passengers, who tried to help the injured. According to the counterma of the boat that recorded the accident, the pilot of the other ship would have fallen asleep, which would have caused the collision.
