AREQUIPA, Peru – An accident in Mayarí, Holguín province, occurred on Saturday afternoon, leaving two people dead. On Monday, two of the hospitalized survivors also died from in-hospital complications related to the crash.

The incident occurred in the afternoon, at approximately 3:30 PM, when a Chevrolet pickup truck crashed into a tree between the neighborhoods of Arroyo Blanco and El Solibano, in the town of Levisa.
Yendri Saldaña Díaz, 40, and Alexander Santiago González Vera, 52, died instantly. Maritza Paredes and Yanet Rojas died later, while the latter’s two youngest children were injuredOther people with injuries identified were Dailín Machado and Yurixan Ortiz Benítez.
The children were admitted to the Pediatric Hospital of Holguín. They are Lázaro Ávila Rojas, aged eight, and his six-year-old sister Lisbeth Ávila Rojas, who suffered a fractured femur. Both are out of danger.
Dailín Machado has a head injury and an occipital fracture, and specialists are evaluating whether he should undergo surgery. Yurixan Ortiz, 34 years old, has a fracture and is not in any major danger.
