Academic conferences are suspended in Riohacha due to the passage of a tropical wave

The District Secretary of Education suspended the academic day on October 7 throughout the urban and rural areas of the city of Riohacha, due to torrential rains and strong gusts of wind that have been occurring in recent hours in different municipalities of the Department.

The previous decision was taken taking into account the special statement number 144 issued by the Institute of Hydrology, Meteorology and Environmental Studies, Ideam, regarding the passage of the tropical wave located in the Central Tropical Atlantic, for which sRed alert has been declared in the Caribbean Region.

They have pointed out that through these measures the district administration seeks to safeguard the integrity of the educational community and avoid possible accidents in the classroom.

“It is estimated that it will continue to favor the development of rains, accompanied in some cases by electrical storms and winds above normal, in large areas of the national territory. Gusts of wind are forecast for the next 48 hours in large sectors of the maritime zone of the Colombian Caribbean, accompanied by heavy rains and electric shocks”, reported Ideam.

In addition, they indicated that the progressive increase in wave height is expected, to the passage of the system with cyclonic potential, with waves between 1.5 and 3.2 m in open waters of the eastern Caribbean, and in waters of the east of the Colombia Basin, north and northeast of the Colombian Caribbean coast, with waves of up to 2.0 meters in coastal areas and up to 3.2 m in water.

Finally, they indicated that the General Maritime Directorate, will continue to carry out permanent monitoring of the progress and conditions of this natural phenomenon, providing timely information to local and regional authorities through the Port Captaincies, in order to facilitate decision-making to prevent inherent risks of this phenomenon that may affect maritime and coastal activities.
