Preliminary balance of the first day of the National High School Exam (Enem) shows that the percentage of registered candidates who did not present themselves to take the language tests fell from 28.1% in 2023 to 26.6% in 2024 and human sciences, in addition to dissertation-argumentative writing. The information was released on Sunday night (3) by the Minister of Education, Camilo Santana.
The MEC also recorded that, in 2024, 94% of students who are completing high school in public schools this year signed up for Enem. The percentage in 2023 was 58%. In 14 states, the rate reached 100%. In the Northeast Region, the only state that did not reach this proportion was Maranhão (83%).
“We consider that it was an important leap, an effort that the ministry has made to encourage students to enroll in Enem. Until before 2023, there was always a drop, a decline in the number of subscribers, and now we are resuming growth, there are almost 1 million [de candidatos] more”, compared Camilo Santana.
The tests and writing were administered in 1,753 municipalities, 10,776 test locations, and almost 150,000 classrooms. According to the minister, 90% of registered candidates were allocated within 10 kilometers of their homes. “This was an important step this year”, said the minister, who stated that “all actions this year were completed at the time of delivery of the tests” and that there was an improvement in security protocols.
Almost 5 thousand candidates (4,999) were eliminated for leaving the test site with their question booklet before the final 30 minutes of application; for carrying electronic equipment; for being absent before the permitted time; for using printed materials; or for not complying with inspectors’ instructions.
The first day of Enem also recorded 689 occurrences and logistical problems such as medical emergencies; temporary power outages and water supply problems. “The participant who was affected by a logistical problem can request to take the new test”, assured Camilo Santana. The candidate must make a reapplication request on the Enem page, between November 11th and 15th.
