Nearly one hundred live wild birdswhat were they illegally sold through the social network Facebook, were rescued this Monday in a series of raids carried out in the city of Mar del Plata, police sources reported.
Specimens of Argentine tasting, starling, Australian parrot and verdon, among other species, were found in cages and baskets, to be marketed, in violation of Law 22,421, on wildlife conservation.
The fact was discovered from an investigation initiated in March by the Federal Prosecutor’s Office 1 of the seaside resort, in charge Laura Mazzaferri.
With intervention of Division UOperational Unit of the Federal Police (Duof), it was determined that they sold this type of animal, through Facebook, in three addresses in the city.
Based on these elements, the prosecutor requested the search of these buildings, a measure that was endorsed by the head of Federal Court 1, Santiago Inchausti.
The procedures were developed from the morning, and led to the discovery of a hundred birds in captivity.
Police sources indicated that in the raids it was also possible to seize glue, “widely used for the live capture of the species”as well as an embalmed bog deer head.
In the operations, a team from the Environmental Control Brigade, of the Ministry of Environment and Sustainable Development of the Nation.
The animals were delivered in the afternoon by personnel from the Environment portfolio at the Mundo Marino oceanarium, located in the seaside resort of San Clemente del Tuyú, where a fauna recovery center operates, and they were “protected and quarantined.”
