Members of the security of the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, prevented this Friday the journalist Edward Fernández to do his job, at a time when he was trying to interview the president in Santiago.
The Diario Libre correspondent in Santiago explained that the event occurred after the head of state left the Unión Médica del Norte clinic, after participating in the inauguration of two towers in that private health center.
“There were some journalists who were talking to the president about the issue of security, there I approached to take the statements and two members of the security, one pulled me by the waist and the other grabbed me by the arm so that I did not approach the phone,” Fernandez said.
The journalist He stated that another member of the president’s security and Ulises Rodríguez, director of the Center for Industrial Development and Competitiveness (Proindustria), asked that the journalist be allowed to carry out his work “but they, however they wanted, continued to do that.”
Fernández indicated that two other journalists suffered the same assault by members of Abinader’s security, who said “push them.”
The Diario Libre correspondent pointed out that, after the incident, the Presidency of the Republic alleged that the president had not scheduled to speak with journalists, so they tried to prevent Abinader from being approached by the press.
The communicator maintained that he was unable to capture the president’s statements and that he managed to write a news item due to the solidarity of colleagues who provided their materials.
He added that he has marks on his arm after the incident, the first that occurred with the president’s security while he was carrying out his work.
