Abinader urges young people to study careers related to science and languages

Abinader insta a jóvenes a estudiar carreras relacionadas con las ciencias y los idiomas

Villa Altagracia.- President Luis Abinader This Sunday he urged young people to choose to study careers linked to sciences and languageswhich are the sectors with high demand in the Dominican Republic, and reaffirmed its commitment to youth to provide opportunities for development and training that allow them to build a successful future.

During a lunch with 350 young people held at the Nuestra Señora de La Altagracia Polytechnic, Los Pajaritos sector, President Abinader called on the students to take advantage of the opportunities offered by the Government to continue your professional studies through the program Scholarship for your Futurewhich includes scholarships in national and international universities.

In that sense, the president invited the young people to visit the platform beca.gob.do to learn about and take advantage of the opportunities availables, noting that the number of scholarships has increased by 25% since 2019 and next year it is planned to expand them even more.

Likewise, the ruler highlighted that those who dominate the English have greater employability opportunities and that the sector cybersecurity requires trained professionals who they are still not enough to meet the demand.

President Abinader highlighted that his management is focused on improving the school infrastructure through the equipment of laboratoriesthe construction of dining rooms and roofs in educational centers, seeking to raise the quality of public education.

He recalled that 14 years ago no official educational center reached the first places in competitions roboticswhile in the last edition a public institution achieved first place and took home the most awards.

“Public education, with all its current challenges, compared to that of 30 years ago, has improved significantly. The quality of today’s students compares with that of any high-cost private center in Santo Domingo”he stated.

He added that educational progress does not depend only on infrastructure, but also on commitment of students, teachers and the communitywho are key to achieving better results and consolidating quality learning.

The head of state also warned about the impact of misuse of social networks, which can affect the youth mental health and encouraged them to use them positively for their academic and personal development.

Respond to student concerns

During the activity, students made requests to improve their educational centers, including expansion of infrastructure, sports roofs and cafeterias.

President Abinader reported that work is being done on the tenders to equip laboratories and that this week the uprisings of the places to start the works according to the Government’s possibilities.

Likewise, the ruler explained about the progress of the Educational Citya project that will house a polytechnic and headquarters of the National Institute of Professional Technical Training (Infotep)the Tecnológico de Las Américas (ITLA) and the Autonomous University of Santo Domingo (UASD) in the old facilities of the Dominican Paper Industry, with delivery scheduled for next year.

The governor of San Cristóbal accompanied the president, Pure Casilla; the senator Gustavo Lara Salazar; and the director of the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (Egehid), Rafael Salazar.
