Abinader supervises the renovation of the Columbus Lighthouse

Santo Domingo.- The president Luis Abinader He took a tour of the Columbus Lighthouse in order to supervise the renovation work on the building that houses the museum, of which he toured several exhibition rooms.

At the end of the tour, during which the president interacted with tourists visiting the museum, he explained that the intervention is part of the strategy to adapt museums to integrate them into the country’s tourist offering.

He highlighted the work carried out and acknowledged that there is still a long way to go to ensure sustainability and to ensure that the lighthouse becomes a more popular place for both nationals and foreigners.

The dignitary said that in the Colonial Zone they are also working on the restoration of museums, since when the government arrived very few were in operation.

He said that the intervention is part of the complementary offer for tourists beyond the sun and beaches.

“Now, for the first time, almost 10 percent of tourists who visit the country for sun and beach are coming to see our cultural riches in the First City of America,” said President Abinader.

The president was accompanied on the tour by the Minister of Housing and Buildings, Carlos Bonilla; the governor of the province of Santo Domingo, Lucrecia Santana Leyva; the mayor of Santo Domingo Este, Dio Astacio; and the governor of Faro a Colón, Eliezer Nolasco.
