President Luis Abinader assured yesterday that inflation is the main threat to the country and the world, but that his government executes programs aimed at mitigating the effects of increases in food in the family basket.
He argued that this inflationary threat has been externalized, not only by him, but by all international organizations, such as the International Monetary Fund (IMF), the World Bank (WB), the Inter-American Development Bank (IDB) and the Organization of the United Nations for Food and Agriculture (FAO), which is very concerned about food shortages.
The head of state spoke when questioned in the popular market of the National Price Stabilization Institute (Inespre), Los Mina sector, Santo Domingo Este, the first place he visited as part of an 11-point agenda that he sold out in that municipality.
There the ruler indicated that thank God in the country there has been no shortage of products, due to the measures taken by the central government.

“You know, the pandemic came, the consequence of the pandemic and now the war in Europe and it is a situation where the raw material has increased, and what we are worrying about is trying to mitigate the price increase,” said Abinader, who previously spoke with sellers and buyers of products that negotiate in that place.
Abinader He specified that in order to alleviate inflation, the Government implements social programs through Inespre, but at the same time producers are subsidized and aid is provided to those who need it.
“The government’s social programs are now greater than ever before in all areas and we will continue them, because I know that there are many people who need them, and that we are going to mitigate those increases in international prices, which have nothing to do with the country and people can eat at a reasonable price”, stressed President Abinader.
They politicize tariffs
In response to the media present, Abinader understands that the issue of a zero rate of tariffs on 67 food products, pending approval in the Senate of the Republic, is being “politicized”.
“What we want is for cheap raw material to reach the different sectors and with that raw material, the industry can produce cheaper. They (the opposition) used to agree, now they disagree; what I want is that we do not politicize”, he indicated.

In the auditorium of the municipal council, in one of its halls, Abinander delivered 92 million pesos, as a loan to 750 women and entrepreneurs, money that will be paid through the National Council for the Promotion and Support of Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (Promipyme).
The director of that entity, Perfirio Peralta, said that MSMEs constitute an important support for the economy.
As part of his agenda in the municipality, the President initiated the paving plan of the Ministry of Public Works in the housing sector; he visited the headquarters of the Economic Kitchens, in an act of the National Health Insurance; at the start of work on the Steps of the Eastern Bank of the Ozama River.
He also spearheaded the opening of a softball stadium in the Ensanche Isabelita; he presided over the delivery of homes from the repair plan, among other activities on Saturday.
