President Louis Abinader received in the afternoon of this Tuesday the presidents of the Dominican College of Journalists (CDP) and the Institute for Social Security and Protection of Journalist (IPPP) and the general secretary of the National Union of Press Workers (SNTP).
At the meeting, due to National Journalist’s Dayjournalists participated Aurelio Henríquez, Olivo de León and José Beatoas well as the President’s Press Director, Daniel Garcia Archibald.
According to a note from the Presidency, at the meeting the head of state expressed his determination to continue working from the government for professionalization and freedom of the press.
They also addressed issues related to pensions for journalists and press workers, their economic situation and precariousness, as well as health issues for professionals in the area.
This morning, the president recognized and congratulated the journalists through the social network Twitter, stating: “There is no democracy without free information and without journalists who fully exercise the right to free expression.”
He stated that democracy is a collective decision-making system based on free access to information and that it is not an exaggeration that the press is recognized as the fourth power and that is why this April 5th the National Journalist’s Day.
“Journalists are the professionals responsible for obtaining, interpreting, processing, analyzing and disseminating information,” said the head of state.
