Abinader puts into operation the first substation with three voltage levels

Abinader pone en operación primera subestación a tres niveles de tensión

Bonao. – President Louis Abinader left the Bonao III substation at 345/230/138 kilovolts (kV) in service this Saturday, which will improve the quality of supply energetic offered to citizens and will expand the transport capacity of the transmission network, facilitating the installation of new generation projects.

It is the first substation in the country that handles three voltage levels and is located in the community Bonaito, province, Monsignor Nouel.

The work involved an investment of more than RD$1,057 million pesos and will benefit the National Transmission System, while providing stability, quality and greater transportation capacity.

This electrical infrastructure is equipped with four 345 kV circuits with three conductors per phase, two 230 kV circuits, four 138 kV circuits, spaces for future expansions and an installed capacity of 550 MW in transformers.

The general administrator of the Dominican Electricity Transmission Company (ETED), Martin Robles Morillo, said that with the construction of this substation, energy transport will be significantly improved, which will promote economic and social development in the Monseñor Nouel province and the country.

Robles expressed that he felt doubly pleased, because not only has continuity been given to the development of the work, which was found to be 75% complete, but also because this substation was planned in the period 2000-2004 when the president was Abinader, a member of the CDEEE Board of Directors.

He explained that this substation is the node that joins the South, the East and the North, through the 345 KV Electric Highway, left under construction in 2004 and it is now when its two lanes (circuits) are put into operation, which have not yet been they were.

“Our commitment is with the expansion and transformation of the National Transmission System, it is to improve the transport capacity more and more, reduce losses (today 1.72%) and increase the quality, safety and continuity of service to all citizens of the country” , he exposed.

The project arises from a collaboration agreement between the ETED and Barrick Pueblo Viejo in 2019.

The implementation of this and other projects aims to guarantee high voltage energy transport according to the needs of the country.
