Santo Domingo. – The health sector of the Dominican Republic will have a new and modern cancer center that seeks to respond to the significant increase in cancer among the national population.
With this purpose, President Luis Abinader participated in the signing of an agreement for its construction, which was signed between the Center for Diagnostic and Advanced Medicine and Medical Conferences and Telemedicine (CEDIMAT) and Montefiore Einstein, recognized for its excellence in oncology. and more than 100 years of experience.
The head of state highlighted that health is one of the main indicators of the level of development of a society and that the Dominican Republic has made great progress in infrastructure and quality of its doctors, therefore the government will continue its contribution with this oncology center of global level.
In that sense, Jorge Marte, medical director of CEDIMAT, indicated that with the new work the care, diagnosis and treatment of patients will be transformed while highlighting the experience they have in improving the health of the Dominican people.
For his part, the president and CEO of Montefiore Einstein Center, Philip O. Ozuah, stated that they will provide all the necessary support in aspects such as human resources, methodologies and training, which will allow them to continue improving the health of Dominicans.
High quality services
Once built, this will be a national reference in the treatment of cancer, a disease that in our country most frequently attacks the breasts, prostate, colon, lung and cervix.
The services to be offered will have a focus on equity and will be carried out with advanced technology and highly qualified human resources, guaranteeing quality care thanks to the contributions of the Montefiore Health System in terms of methodology and best practices and procedures.
Records and statistics will be implemented to ensure efficient follow-up and a Tumor Committee will be developed made up of specialists from both institutions, who will jointly evaluate oncological pathologies to determine the most effective and personalized treatments for patients.
Training of Dominican medical personnel
The agreement also benefits CEDIMAT’s medical staff, who will be able to pursue specialties and subspecialties at the Albert Einstein College of Medicine, one of the leading centers in the United States for postgraduate medical education and clinical research. They will also be able to stay up-to-date on the latest advances in patient care and research through courses, hands-on training, and other resources.
Also participating were José Luis Corripio, vice president of the CEDIMAT board; the Minister of Health Víctor Atallah; Marisol Vicens, 2nd vice president of the CEDIMAT board, among others.
