SANTO DOMINGO.-The Dominican Petroleum Refinery (refidomsa) celebrated 50 years of foundation with a gala dinner led by President Luis Abinader, Vice President Raquel Peña and the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Dr. Leonardo Aguilera.
The event, held at PortaAzul, was attended by various personalities from the government, business and political spheres, who celebrated the achievements and successes that the main fuel company in the country has had for five decades.
The ceremony was blessed by Auxiliary Bishop Nelson Clark, pastor of the Primate Cathedral of America, who placed in God’s hands the path of success to follow after his half century.
In his central words, Dr. Aguilera highlighted the importance that the refinery has had for the economy and the development of the nation from 1973 to date, noting that in the last two and a half years, the current government has overcome all the growth expectations forecast by experts.
“Having started our management in 2020 with a projected loss of $26 million dollars, we closed that year with earnings of approximately $3 million dollars, and we have continued with an ascending line of profits exceeding each year in relation to the previous year”, revealed the executive.
Aguilera added that the sales of refidomsa they have increased by 22% compared to 2020, despite the effects of the pandemic and other adverse factors that have impacted the sector.
He also took advantage of his speech to highlight the role that Refidomsa has played in gender equality, since for the first time in history a woman has held the position of general manager and the leadership of that gender has increased significantly in an industry that was dominated by by men.
“Within this management, women in managerial leadership positions increased from 38% to 60%, appointing a woman as general manager for the first time in the company’s history,” he said.
He also highlighted the improvement that pensioners have received in their income, who have had an increase of up to 45%, as well as the military who have been incorporated with the same measurement parameters as civil servants.
He highlighted the importance that his administration has given to investigations to detect the presence of oil and gas, for which national and international agreements have been signed.
Another aspect that Aguilera highlighted refers to social performance through the Refidomsa Foundation, which has developed assistance programs in the cultural, health, educational and sports fields, in collaboration with municipalities, state agencies and community organizations.
The event was attended by representatives of the fuel sector and other businessmen in the country. During the meeting those present enjoyed the music of a saxophonist.
