The president Luis Abinader inaugurated this Saturday two new industrial warehouses in the free zone park of this town, which now totals five and will generate 1,200 direct jobs.
The president highlighted that this park is part of the San Juan Plancreated in 2021 to change the productive matrix of the province, thus introducing the industrial sector in an area that was mainly based on agriculture. He also pointed out that in the long term this plan will be the engine of true social and economic development that its people require and deserve.
In this sense, Abinader added, big companies already established in the main cities of the national territory, they are installing in this southern province, taking advantage of the opportunities that the Government has been creating.
Likewise, he reported that they will soon announce new initiatives related to the tourism sector that will continue to promote the advancement of this province and the region, as detailed in a statement.
The new ships belong to the company Tobacco Shop La Aurorawhose jobs They are mostly occupied by women, many of them single mothers and youths in his first formal job, bringing more and more opportunities for advancement to Dominican families.
The Minister of Industry, Commerce and MSMEs, Víctor (Ito) Bisonó, reiterated that the tobacco industry It is an essential part of the national identity, declared by law as Cultural Heritage. He added that the Dominican Republic is the first country global exporter of handmade cigars, with figures that in 2020 amounted to RD$900 million and that in 2025 will exceed US$1,300 million.
For his part, the director of Proindustria, Rafael Cruzhighlighted that the investment in both warehouses is around RD$123 million, and that the total investment in the park exceeds RD$325 million, where the companies Tabacalera El Artista and Tabacalera El Artista also operate. Southern Tobacco.
Supervises construction of the San Juan domestic airport
Likewise, the president visited the construction of the El Granero Domestic Airport del Sur, in this province, which seeks to continue promoting the economic and tourism development of the entire region, as well as local agribusiness and agricultural security, highlighted the executive director of the Airport Department, Víctor Pichardo.
There, the president was able to verify the progress of the work, whose airstripwith a length of 1,200 meters, is already in the paving phase, which represents 83% of its construction. Work is also underway on the two-level terminal and the Air Force barracks.
The airport, located in the community of Barranca, will have a main parking lot for 32 vehicles and two secondary parking lots for an additional 20. Likewise, it has land for future expansions of the project.
Visit grape project in Pedro Corto
Likewise, President Abinader visited the Uvas San Juan projecta private initiative that is part of the San Juan Plan and which represents the first certified production of seedless grapes in the Dominican Republic. Its first commercial harvest will be released in December.
The project owner, Eliam Ramirezreported that this agricultural initiative began its planting in 2024 and, in addition to placing the production in the national market, it will begin its export in 2026, with USA as a first destination, along with advanced contacts in the Lesser Antilles.
Ramírez added that the initiative is linked to the Federico Henriquez University and Carvajal and occupies an area of 18 hectaresequivalent to some 250 tasks.
Dialogue with youths of Saint John
His work agenda also included a meeting with youths from different educational centers in the province, with whom he spoke about the social programs implemented by the Government, the challenges of educational system and opportunities for Dominican youth.
In the dialogue, held in the Father Guido Schoolstudents mentioned initiatives such as Educational Leadership (PLE), Oportunidad 14-24, Beca Tu Futuro, Joven Supérate and the Youth Cardwhich provides economic benefits and facilities for university students.
In that sense, President Abinader pointed out that every year there are unused scholarshipswhich is why it reiterated its commitment to promoting and expanding access to these programs. Likewise, he highlighted that Promipyme and BANDEX offer financing for entrepreneurial initiatives, especially in the digital field.
The youths expressed concerns about the educational systemthe polytechnic laboratories, the support for teachers and the conditions of the study centers. The president responded that the tenders to improve technical laboratories and promised to review the situation of the San Juan asylum.
Finally, he shared with the students reflections on his service vocationcataloging politics as a social service and pointing out that education is the basis for living better and making better decisions.
