Santiago. The President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, inaugurated the Juan Vera/La Joyita highway, worth RD$ 415 million. The work was carried out by the contracting company Ingeniería Estrella.
During his speech, the Minister of Public Works, Deligne Ascención Burgos, highlighted the importance of this type of work for improving the quality of life of Dominicans.
“This community is the epicenter of the Abinader Government’s investment. This is an inclusive development that involves all communities, creating a virtuous circle in which those who live in large cities can benefit, but also those who reside in smaller communities like the one you represent,” he said. The official announced the completion of two missing kilometers to reach the Municipal District of Pedro García, as well as the construction of a baseball stadium on the land that the community has designated.
Ascención assured that with this work they seek to promote the development of new economic activities such as hiking and ecological tourism. “Since 2020, when Luis Abinader assumed the presidency, he instructed us to complete the work on the La Cumbre Tourist Highway that had been stopped for a long time and through a law, legislators from this province made it possible. We are already settling that historical debt that existed,” added the minister.
The president of the neighborhood council of that demarcation, Claudio Antonio Arias, said that for more than two decades transportation in that area was by donkey, mules and horses, however after the completion of the work developed by Engineering Estrella the citizens see their dreams come true.
“Thanks to the president and the engineers because you make this community that for many people did not exist before, now with a simple call we have 911 in front of our house,” said the community member. He also expressed the commitment they have to be guardians of what has been built and to keep this road with the best possible care.
During the blessing of the work, Father Blessed Rosario Cruz of the parish of the municipal district of Pedro García, requested the completion of several highways and local roads. The La Cumbre de Juan Veras-Las Yayitas highway is part of the connections that are being developed together with the Gregorio Luperón tourist highway, which in total have a cost of over four billion pesos. The construction of this road seeks to contribute to the development of agriculture, especially the cultivation of organic coffee and cocoa.

The leader of the neighborhood association of that district emphasized the effort, dedication and commitment of Engineering Estrella in the work carried out, without considering hours, holidays or weather conditions. The governor of Santiago, Rosa Santos, valued the work of the construction company and stated that this six-kilometer-long project has a “real” impact in the area, since more than one hundred vacation villas have been built.
