Santo Domingo. – The president Luis Abinader left the Independence Corridor in operationa new route of the public transportation system that will impact more than 40,000 daily passengers in Greater Santo Domingo.
With this addition, the network of renovated corridors adds 209 buses distributed along four axes: Núñez, Churchill, Charles de Gaulle and Independence.
Altogether, the system reaches a coverage of 500.93 kilometers, with an additional 67.27 kilometers integrated from this new corridor.
The new route will operate with 68 buseseach with capacity for 90 passengersfrom 5:00 in the morning to 11:00 at night, with intervals of five to seven minutes and 82 stops along an 18-kilometer route.
One of the central elements is the single rate of RD$35, under a completely electronic payment scheme.
Furthermore, through the Rate Stabilization Fund (FET), lUsers will be able to save up to RD$60 per trip thanks to the state subsidy.
The project contemplates tariff integration with the Corridorin a pilot phase that will allow transfers at no additional cost at authorized stations, as long as payment is made electronically.
The initiative is coordinated by the Transportation Cabinet and supervised by the National Institute of Transit and Land Transportation (Intrant)which will monitor the operation using GPS from its control center.
Since February 2021, when the first renovated corridor began, the system has mobilized more than 56 million passengers, as part of the process of reorganizing urban transportation in the country.
