Santo Domingo.- The president Luis Abinader This Sunday he headed the opening of several works of military infrastructure at the General Division Matías Ramón Mella campus, headquarters of the Ministry of Defense, where he highlighted that his government has prioritized the modernization of the Armed forces during the last five years.
The president pointed out that in this period the military institutions have been equipped with vehicles, operational teams and technological tools aimed at strengthening national security. He also announced that the country will have more drones and unmanned systems. “We will have more equipment to protect our country more and more,” he said.
Abinader assured that the Armed forces “they are already at the level required by the circumstances,” and reiterated that his management will continue to allocate resources to improve their conditions.
Quality of life
The Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofreexplained that the inaugurated works are part of a plan aimed at improving the quality of life and the conditions of service of military personnel.
Among the completed works is the renewal of the Honor Guard Regimentresponsible for presidential security and military honors. The intervention included new administrative areas, armories, warehouses, hallways, barbershops and a beauty salon.
Also delivered was a new barracks with capacity for 150 enlisted men, and the existing barracks of the Regiment and the Military Police were renovated, which can now accommodate up to 483 soldiers in air-conditioned spaces, equipped with new bathrooms, beds, closets and rest areas. The rooms of senior and junior officers were also renovated.
In it Officers Club they intervened restaurantthe cafeteria, the swimming pool, the gazebos and the playground. «The healthy recreation of our soldiers and their families is a priority,” said Fernández Onofre.
Armed forces
Another of the improvements inaugurated was the General Directorate of Unmanned Vehicles of the C5i, equipped with advanced technology for surveillance and strategic operations. Likewise, the Counterterrorism Special Command Unitwhich received new barracks, furniture and military equipment.
The Ministry of Defense also reopened the Cultural Radio Station «The Voice of the Armed forces«, modernized in Santo Domingo and Alto Bandera, and with new repeater transmitters installed in border provinces. Fernández Onofre thanked the president of INDOTEL for the support, Guido Gómez Mazarato facilitate technological modernization.

Finally, a pharmacy in the Retirement and Pension Fund Board, intended for the free delivery of medicines to retired military personnel. The areas of care, certifications, medical consultations and warehouses for social action were also expanded.
