San Cristóbal.- President Luis Abinader inaugurated this Sunday the José Francisco Peña Gómez Technological Center (JFPG) in Haina with capacity to host more than 400 participants.

For his part, the general director of INFOTEP, Rafael Santos Badía, stated that once again the institution and the State are joining forces to promote the comprehensive development of Dominican youth, with training programs to insert them into the labor market.

“It is worth highlighting the support received from the Dominican Petroleum Refinery (REFIDOMSA) and the companies Laurelton and Ege-Haina, for which we give them special recognition and gratitude,” Santos Badía stressed.

The José Francisco Peña Gómez Technology Center was installed and equipped after REFIDOMSA delivered to INFOTEP last March a building that it built, through its foundation, on land where the administrative offices of the former Río Haina Power Plant were located.

Ten workshops were set up at the centre, including refrigeration, welding, electricity, well-being and health, IT and cybersecurity, gastronomy and cabinetmaking to meet the training needs of companies in the Haina area and the general population.

San Cristobal Trauma Hospital

Also, the president Abinader On Sunday, work began on the construction of the San Cristóbal Trauma Hospital, a demand that has been made for decades by residents of this southern province and surrounding areas.

This health center will have an investment of RD$2,433 million and will provide more than 62 hospital beds to the health system of the Dominican Republic.

During the ceremony, the president said that these are the works that will save lives, while indicating that the 15 or 20 minutes after an accident are essential to save the life of the affected person.

“That is why we have insisted from the beginning of our government on this trauma network, we will say in the last two years because in the first two our focus was the pandemic and dealing with Covid cases,” said Abinader.

Decongesting the Juan Pablo Pina Hospital

In this regard, the Head of State explained that the designs for a Third Level Regional Hospital for San Cristóbal have been initiated, but that they will begin with the trauma network due to the need that exists and he pointed out that the Juan Pablo Pina Regional Teaching University Hospital is saturated with trauma cases in its emergency room and that is why “we decided to start and make an extraordinary effort to begin this network in this hospital.”

Promise fulfilled

The new hospital will be built by the Ministry of Housing and Construction (MIVED), headed by Carlos Bonilla. He explained that the San Cristóbal Trauma Hospital will have a unit for adolescent care, outpatient clinic, emergencies, pharmacy, hospitalization, imaging and immunization area, laboratory, surgical unit, burn unit, tuberculosis area, intensive care unit, pathological anatomy and general services.

Meanwhile, the Minister of Health, Víctor Atallah, said that this is a project that will mark a great advance not only in this beloved region, but in the entire country.

He explained that the construction of the Trauma Hospital in Yaguate, San Cristóbal, a high-level hospital for all medical care, but with the particularity that it will also be a specialty center for Traumatology. It will be a reference point for the rest of the country and will be part of a national trauma network.

Nizao-Najayo irrigation canal

Earlier, the president put into service the Nizao-Najayo irrigation canal, which underwent a rehabilitation process at a cost of RD$230,000,000.00.

The work carried out by the Dominican Hydroelectric Generation Company (EGEHID) and the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHI), involves the rehabilitation of the irrigation and cleaning system of the Nizao-Najayo canal, whose work consisted of improving the stability and functionality of the irrigation system by lining the existing infrastructure with masonry and concrete, removing all sediment and weeds, and creating a continuous berm.

The works include the installation of floodgates, connections, metal reinforcements to prevent blockages, construction of vehicular and pedestrian bridges, placement of pipes for irrigation of plots and horizontal signage. The work has a length of 6.3 kilometers and the communities that will be impacted by the irrigation system are La Cabria, Boca del Arroyo, Juan Barón and Sabana de Palenque, in San Cristóbal.

The general manager of EGEHID, Rafael Salazar, highlighted the importance of the project, which takes water from the Nizao River and distributes it for agricultural production, with a positive impact on the economic development of the area. Salazar said that more than 3 thousand producers will benefit from this first stage of the project.

The director of the National Institute of Hydraulic Resources (INDRHIRD), Olmedo Caba, also said that the work should be thanked to the president for the disposition of the work and to Salazar, who said that 82 percent of all national agricultural production is linked to a national irrigation system.

Our Lady of Altagracia Leper Colony is handed over in Nigua

Later, President Abinader inaugurated the Nuestra Señora de la Altagracia Leper Colony in Nigua, run by the Mercenary Sisters of Charity, whom he thanked for their work and help to their neighbors.

At the event, Sister Helen Tejeda stated that thanks to the efforts of President Abinader, the work has been completed to guarantee improvements in comprehensive patient care services.

President hands over new Migration Interdiction Processing Center in Haina

The Head of State then handed over a new Migration Interdiction Processing Center operating in Haina, built to international standards.

The new building, which cost more than 88 million euros, has two rooms for men, one for women and another for Dominicans who have returned from another country.

The Director General of Migration, Venancio Alcántara, took the opportunity to highlight the modernization of the institution, the actions to improve the quality of the different processes and the purchase of equipment and vehicles for the different tasks of the institution. He added that in the different indicators the scores average 95.

President Abinader was accompanied on his tour by the Ministers of the Presidency, Joel Santos; of the Interior and Police, Jesús Vásquez Martínez; representing the Minister of Defense, Lieutenant General Carlos Luciano Díaz Morfa, Major General Miguel Ángel Rubio Báez, ERD. Inspector General of the Armed Forces; the President of the Chamber of Deputies, Alfredo Pacheco; the Commander General of the Army, Major General Carlos Antonio Fernández Onofre; the Commander General of the Dominican Republic Navy, Vice Admiral, Agustín Alberto Morillo Rodríguez; the Director of CESFronT, Brigadier General Freddy Rafael Soto Thormann and the Director of the Tourism Police (Politur), General Minoru Matsunaga.

Also present were the directors of the National Health Service, Mario Lama; the director of Customs, Eduardo Sanz Lovatón; the president of REFIDOMSA, Leonardo Aguilera; the mayor of San Cristóbal, Nelson De La Rosa; and the president of the Board of Directors of EGEHID, Rosa Ysabel Ruíz.

As well as the governor, Pura Casilla; the senator-elect for the province of San Cristóbal, Gustavo Lara; the deputies Otoniel Tejeda; Margarita Tejeda de la Rosa; Eddy Montás; the deputy-elect Montserrat Santana; the director of the Valdesia Regional Health Service (SRSV), Dr. Marcelino Fulgencio; the rector of the Loyola Polytechnic Institute, José Victoriano, among others.
