With the presence of President Luis Abinader, the chain Meliá International Hotels made the first bite for the reconstruction of the Paradisus Punta Cana hotel, this Sunday morning.
During the event, David Collado, Minister of Tourism, said that this investment will be 200 million dollars and will have 1,200 rooms.
He indicated that this is in line with the thoughts of the Tourism Cabinet, of encourage foreign investment in this 2023.
At the event it was reported that the current hotel will be demolished starting tomorrow, Monday, to build the “most modern and sustainable hotel in the Caribbean”.
The vision of the chain
Gabriel Escarrer Jaume, CEO of Meliá International Hotels, explained that this is a special day for the Meliá. “From the beginning, I have held up this country as an example for its great public-private collaboration,” he said.
He assured that in the 47 countries in which Meliá is present, always sets the example of the Dominican Republic for being “the country that has best managed covid-19”.

He commented that this hotel will be “the best in the Caribbean”, as it will be “an example of quality, sustainability and a reference in terms of luxuries“.
He recalled that he promised President Abinader that Meliá would invest with its partners more than €400 million and they would create more than 3,700 jobs.
Hotel Features
According to the architect Álvaro Sans, this will be a hotel that will form part of a new generation of Hotels in a lot that has 500 frontal meters of beachin an area of 35 hectares.
The 35 hectares have two of mangrove swamppark or protected area.
“More than a third of the site is natural area, where the divided density is 1,440 rooms per hectareso we are going to use 300 to 400 fewer rooms per hectare, because we are not interested in massifying this lot,” said Escarrer.
