A possible choice of the new mayor of La Vega by the President of the Republic, Luis Abinader, is unconstitutional and lacks legal basis, according to the leader of the Democratic Option Party, Christian González.
González, who is part of the opposition bloc that is against this rumored selection, assures that the only way out of the mayor’s solution after the resignation of Kelvin Cruz to assume the Ministry of Sports and Recreation, is the holding of extraordinary elections.
“The governing party does not have the legal power for the president to have the power to appoint anyone to that position,” the jurist pointed out.
“There must be extraordinary elections because there is a succession vacuum so that someone must be in office again,” said the professor interviewed this Tuesday on the program The Day which is transmitted by Telesystem channel 11 under the direction of Edith Febles.
He assured that the departure of the new mayoral official was planned before the elections due to the high popularity rate that, according to him, the Modern Revolutionary Party does not enjoy in the district.
