The President Luis Abinader Yesterday, the Council called for a pact on quality of education involving all sectors, to find a solution to the limitations facing the educational system.
In that order, he delegated to the Economic and Social Council (ESC) to convene as soon as possible and to be able to achieve concrete commitments on issues such as initial training and teacher training, who are the backbone of education, which is why it is necessary to ensure that everyone has adequate training and ongoing training that allows them to adapt to a constantly changing world.

The president expressed gratitude to the teachers for their dedication and commitment and urged before that end of the year 2024, the evaluation process of their performance begins. “You are fundamental in guiding our students on the path of learning, you are the architects of the future, who with your passion, patience and effort, shape the minds and hearts of the next generation. It is a great honor to have you in this noble task,” he exclaimed.
Abinader made these statements at the ceremony marking the start of the 2024-2025 school year at the Profesora Iluminada Mejía Elementary School in Arroyo Hondo, National District.
The president assured that the Government is determined to work on depoliticizing the educational system, to banish inefficiency and to promote transparency.
He also stated that quality in education must be accompanied by adequate investment.
“We must not allow waste; instead, we must direct our resources towards the pedagogical areas that really impact the education of our children. We must not only invest more, we must do it better.”
In addition, reform and expansion of education for work, in order to meet the needs of national development and enable better jobs for high school graduates, as well as achieving more efficient mechanisms to better involve parents and the community in the educational system.
The president indicated that a clear route and a credible horizon must be drawn up. “That is why I ask everyone to get involved in the execution of the Horizon 2034 Plan. An open, collaborative plan that aims to address all the issues of our educational system.” He argued that education is the responsibility of society as a whole.
“We all have a role to play in this scenario, and each of us has the ability to contribute to building an educational system that guarantees access and quality for every child and adolescent in our country,” said President Abinader.
She said that students have the potential to transform the nation and the power to build a better future, which is why she urged them to dedicate this school year to discover, question and explore, to not be afraid to make mistakes, because they contain valuable lessons and to know that every effort counts and that every step they take in their education is a step towards a future full of opportunities.
At the event, the ruler inaugurated the Profesora Yluminada Mejía Pérez Elementary School, with 26 classrooms and capacity for 830 students, with an investment of RD$174 million.
For his part, the Minister of Education, Ángel Hernández, reported that 12 million textbooks have been made available, 123,000 teachers have been trained in the new trends in the curriculum and in the evaluation system, and 4,400 educational centers are connected to broadband Internet, which allows students to have access to renewed knowledge.

Meanwhile, Vice President Raquel Peña led the new school year during a ceremony held at the Hermanos Díaz Moreno Educational Center in La Ermita, Gurabo, Santiago, where nearly 600 elementary school students were called. Peña proclaimed that, with this return to classes, “another school year begins to dream, another opportunity to live the adventure of learning and growing.”
