Abinader assures Arajet airline will lower flight prices

Without routes or competitive rates the Dominican Republic cannot compete or meet the expectations of the new tourist, the president said this morning Louis Abinader who affirmed that having a low-cost line with a national flag is to make the Dominican destination more appealing.

In this sense, Abinader celebrated the launch of the new Dominican airline ARAJET in an act at Las Américas International Airport.

ARAJET is a new ultra-low-cost commercial airline of Dominican origin, with mixed investment: Dominican and foreign. This project seeks to cause an increase in direct traffic between Dominican Republic and the rest of America.

Abinader said that with ARAJET marks the beginning of the end of high airfares.

ARAJET It will help us to be able to serve markets that, due to price and availability of direct routes, still have SERVICE gaps,” stressed the official.

The president waved the Dominican flag from the plane and symbolically received the first air ticket from the airline that will begin flying next May.

ARAJET and Boeing Company announced that the new airline ordered 20 737MAX aircraft, specifically the high-capacity 737-8-200 model, to expand affordable travel options in the Americas. Likewise, the airline has options to purchase an additional 15 737 MAX jets that, together with existing lease agreements, could bring the airline’s new fuel-efficient fleet to 40 aircraft.

ARAJET It will begin operations in May from Las Américas International Airport with flights to Costa Rica, Colombia, Jamaica and other Caribbean islands, with the plane named Pico Duarte. As of June, more aircraft will be incorporated and new destinations will be opened on the continent, and it is expected that flights to the United States will begin in the second half of the year.

The executives estimate that the airline will generate more than 4,000 jobs directly and about 40,000 indirectly in the next 5 years, and expects to transport about 7 million passengers a year, with a total of 43 air routes, of which which are projected 24 new routes that are currently not served in the market.
