Abinader announces the arrival of the electronic passport in August 2025

Abinader anuncia la llegada del pasaporte electrónico en agosto de 2025

Santo Domingo.- The president Luis Abinader, announced this Monday in La Semanal con la Prensa, that in August 2025 HE will issue in it country the first electronic passportDuring the announcement, the general director of Passports (DGP), Lorenzo David Ramírez Uribe, was present.

“With the electronic passportwe will be able to continue the efforts to eliminate the Schengen visawhich will further facilitate the international travel for Dominicans,” Abinader stated.

Ramirez Uribe highlighted that the passport modernization is the result of a decade of efforts to implement this type of document. “After 10 years of requests, president, you will be able to give the nation the electronic passport,” he said.

The official explained that the implementation of the electronic passport is part of a comprehensive system transformationwhich will include the delivery by courierfacilitating the home delivery of documents and eliminating the need for citizens to go to the offices twice.

This service will also provide logistic support to Dominicans abroad in repatriation case.

“The courier service is an added value that the population has constantly requested, allowing citizens only come once to the institution. In addition, we want to offer repatriation insurance as another additional benefit,” emphasized Ramírez Uribe.
