Abinader and the King of Spain, Felipe VI, meet at the National Palace

Santo Domingo. – Dominican President Luis Abinader held a private meeting this Thursday with the King of Spain, Felipe VIat the National Palace, where they discussed various issues, the Presidency reported.

King Felipe VI is in the country for the swearing-in, this Friday, of President Abinader, who will begin his second term as Dominican head of state.

President Abinader was accompanied at the meeting by the Ministers of Foreign Affairs, Roberto Álvarez; of the Presidency, Joel Santos, as well as the Vice Minister of Bilateral Foreign Policy, José Julio Gómez.

The delegation that accompanied the King of Spain, Felipe VI, included the Secretary of State for Latin America and the Caribbean and the Spanish of the world, Susana Sumelzo; the head of His Majesty’s household, Camilo Villarino; the Spanish ambassador to the country, Antonio Pérez-Hernández; and the diplomatic advisor to the household of His Majesty the King, Alfonso Sanz Portolés, Pepe Bono.

The Dominican leader also held a bilateral meeting with the Minister of Industry and Information Technology of China, Jin Zhuanglong, in the Private Room of the National Palace.

The Chinese delegation included its ambassador to the country, Chen Luning; the deputy director general of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Tang Lingyun; and the third secretary of the Department of Latin America and the Caribbean of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sun Xinyu.

President Abinader later met with the Minister of Domestic and Foreign Trade of the Republic of Serbia, Tomislav Momirovic.

The Serbian delegation was represented by the Minister’s Special Adviser, Marko Obradović, the attaché of the Serbian Embassy in Mexico, Miloš Marković, and the Honorary Consul of Serbia in the country, Ivana Gavrilovic.

Later, the Dominican head of state received the United States Secretary of Energy, Jennifer Granholm, in the Private Room, with whom he spoke for an hour.

Present at the meeting were the Chargé d’Affaires of the United States Embassy in the country, Patricia Aguilera; the Assistant to the President and Director of the Office of Intergovernmental Affairs, Tom Pérez; the Assistant Secretary for Economic Development of the Department of Commerce, Alejandra Castillo; the Special Advisor to the President for the Americas, Chris Dodd and the Senior Director for
Western Hemisphere Affairs, National Security Council, Dan Erikson.

President Abinader also met with his Guatemalan counterpart, Bernardo Arévalo. The Guatemalan delegation included the Minister of the Presidency, Ana Glenda Tager; the director of the Guatemalan Tourism Institute, Harris Withbeck; the Guatemalan ambassador to the country, Javier Zepeda; and the second secretary of the Embassy in the country, María Marroquín.

The Dominican head of state also held brief separate meetings with representatives of the delegations of Japan and Korea.

The Japanese commission was composed of the head of the delegation and parliamentary deputy, Watanabe Hiromichi; the Japanese ambassador accredited to the Dominican Republic, Tagari Masahiro; the director of the division of Mexico, Central America and the Caribbean, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Sato Shinichi; the deputy director, an official of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yoshizawa Mina; the second secretary of the Embassy of Japan in the country, Fujiwaki Miyu; and the interpreter of the head of mission, third secretary of the Embassy of Japan in El Salvador, Katayama Ryotaro.

The Korean delegation included the Presidential Special Envoy, Dae Ki KIM; the Korean Ambassador, Sang Ryul LEE; the First Secretary of the Embassy, ​​Taeshin HA; the Deputy Director General for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Jun Ho CHOI; the Deputy Director for Latin American and Caribbean Affairs of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Eunju OH; and the translator of the Korean Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Yuri LEE.
