Azua.- President Luis Abinader announced that the Monte Grande dam would be ready in July, according to how the contractors assured him, and after having started construction in 2009.
During a tour of the area and after receiving a report on the work from the director of INDRHI, Olmedo Caba, the president recalled that by August 2020 construction progress was 38% and that in just two and a half years of government, to this day, is at 92%.
Abinader also pointed out that the dam wall is 98% ready and reiterated that despite the delay of the electromechanical part due to logistics problems in the last year, the contractors report that the entire dam would be ready in July.
He insisted that the importance of the work lies in its potential to influence the entire southern region, since this dam would be the source of the Azuro regional aqueduct that will provide drinking water to the entire region and in the future would generate between 8 and 12 megabytes of energy.
“This is a work of the country, of all political parties, of all social and community interests and it must be protected and strengthened so that it achieves the objectives projected from its inception.”
The National Institute of Hydraulic Resources, INDRHI, reported that the wall has a length of 2.2 kilometers and an asphalt core for greater waterproofing, it is also at its maximum height of 206 meters above sea level, and work is being done on the installation of the bottom outlet gates and the service weir.
Deliver housing in Monte Grande
Subsequently, the president, together with the Minister of the Presidency, Joel Santos, delivered a new populated center in Monte Grande with 390 homes, which benefits the same number of families that were mobilized for the construction of the Montegrande Dam Multiple Project.
“Today is a great day because hundreds of families who had been displaced for more than a decade are going to find their permanent residence,” said Abinader.
