Arequipa, Peru – Abelardo Moreno Fernández, once Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of Cuba, died this Saturday on the island after decades of servility in favor of the Castro dictatorship.

“We have been Abelardo Moreno. Abelardo, as we simply called him. Recognized as one of the greats of Cuban Revolutionary Diplomacy, not only for his colleagues from the Foreign Ministry of Cuba, but for all the diplomats of the world,” he wrote On Facebook Josefina Vidal, current vartitular of the Minrex.

“Teacher of generations of diplomats, leaves us as great legacy his teachings and experiences, many of them embodied in his reference work on the art and science of International negotiation”, Added the vice minister.

The official press of the Cuban regime emphasizes that the diplomatic career of Abelardo Moreno Fernández extended for more than half a century. According to the state media Cubadebateto his experience as a negotiator hundreds of international meetings and negotiations were added.

Indeed, Moreno Fernández worked in the Foreign Ministry since the age of eighteen and over time he climbed to the highest positions of the Ministry. During his career he always supposed a fervent defender of Castro speech in the international arena.

In 2011, being still Vice Chancellor, he was the protagonist of an episode in the UN Committee by ruling for the elimination of racial discrimination in Geneva, after the rapporteur of that organization asked the communist dictatorship to undertake democratic reforms on the island.

In his defense of the Havana regime, Moreno Fernández denied that access to hotels or other tourist and leisure facilities to Cubans existed in Cuba.

The discussion, in a panel of 18 experts, was due to the complaints filed by non -governmental organizations inside the islandon arbitrary arrests that violated the rights to freedom of opinion and expression, as well as to the different types of discrimination suffered by citizens ranging from ethnocultural origin (most Afro -descendants), sexual preference, gender and even place of birth.

By way of justification and categorical response, the late Vice Minister then said that such accusations were “isolated cases that have plausible explanations.”
