Abel Barrera Hernández*: Surviving the disaster in Guerrero

AND

n the coastal strip Girl stretching from Acapulco to Cuajinicuilapa, the hurricane John It devastated the precarious infrastructure of the Afro-Mexican and indigenous communities. The desolation was greater due to the torrent of bullets that organized crime has spread in the port of Acapulco, Cuajinicuilapa, Ayutla de los Libres and Tecoanapa. In the middle of the mudflats lie the dejected bodies, the black bags with dismembered people, pools of blood in the ruined streets and an unarmed population, victims of the terror and indolence of the authorities.

The disaster disrupts our security and the rule of law. Filth corrodes us and drowns us in the sea of iniquity. The settlers of Acapulco block the streets daily due to the lack of water and because they do not see the support arriving to repair their homes. Service providers are desperate because tourists do not arrive and the authorities do not attend to their basic needs either. They live in flooded neighborhoods, without basic services, and they wander the avenues in search of clients.

One year after the hurricane Otis The families of the port, with many sacrifices, built their homes and managed to get new beds, refrigerators and stoves that were distributed by former president Andrés Manuel López Obrador, but with the arrival of John they lost everything. Sadness and despair overwhelm the people of Acapulco because the mud and bullets sink and frighten them.

In Coyuca de Benítez, its lagoon and its river left the residents in the mud. From the storms Ingrid and Manuel The authorities have not promoted its cleaning in this plain of coconut plantations.

The rains of the hurricane tore apart the sacred hills of the Mountain: Lucerna and Señor Santiago, in Malinaltepec; in Cochoapa el Grande, the Garza hill. In the Me phaa region of Tlacoapa and Acatepec, the Gachupín, the Gavilán, the Maguey and the Borracho; in the rugged region of the Ñuu savi people, the Estrella hill (Yuku Kimi), municipality of Metlatónoc.

The landslides buried eight people, including veterinarian Ilse Noemí, from Plan de Guadalupe, and the girl Dareny, from Lucerna, whose body was rescued by her relatives after three weeks. The cornfields on the hillsides were lost and hunger won the battle for San Miguel. The day laborer families advanced their journey to the fields of Culiacán where they navigate their lives between furrows and shootouts.

30 days after the hurricane John The supports do not arrive. The physical wear and tear of the affected families is evident and the filth of the mud is disgusting. The anger increases in tone because they are not counting all the damaged homes. In Acapulco, anguish is widespread due to the paralysis of the economy and the onslaught of criminal groups that have repositioned themselves on the beaches and bars, increasing the cost of extortion and collecting blood.

The burning of the central market and the La Cabaña restaurant is the fatal sign of the real power of crime.

The hurricanes of violence are unstoppable on the coasts of Guerrero. On October 14, they murdered six people in Ayutla de los Libres, and on one of the sidewalks of the Chedraui store they left black bags with two dismembered bodies. In the afternoon, the coordinator of the Union of Peoples and Organizations of the State of Guerrero, Felipe de Jesús Ceballos, was murdered. On the way out to Tecoanapa, they shot a taxi driver and two other people in the Nuevo neighborhood and the Reforma neighborhood. The violence in Ayutla will disrupt the elections that will be rescheduled to elect the next municipal councilors.

The political fracture can crack this community process with the interference of factious and criminal interests.

On October 12 in Cuajinicuilapa, a transport leader and his brother were murdered in the center of the town. Armed chases and shootings were recorded.

The recent change of the municipal presidency was a favorable situation for the rearrangement of criminal groups. The violent invasion was to displace the leader of the plaza. The population refuses to stoically endure the ravages of violence, and furthermore, the authorities are absent.

Three days after the feast of San Francisco, two young people were lynched in Olinalá, in the Mountain region. Several groups of the San Juan community police came to rescue a kidnapped person. After checking several homes and hotels, a shootout broke out two blocks from the municipal hall. Local authorities remained on the sidelines. The police took the alleged kidnappers to the Ceiba field.

After interrogating and beating them, they set them on fire. The Army stayed away from devious crime.

With the murder and beheading of the municipal president of Chilpancingo, Alejandro Arcos, our state is shipwrecked in the sea of violence that is expanding in the eight regions of the state.

Armed raids are constant. Recently in Tecpan de Galeana, on the Costa Grande, the arrival of armored vehicles with heavily armed people was recorded. Upon their arrival, they murdered two municipal police officers, they encountered the National Guard and the Army, and 14 members of the self-proclaimed group were killed in the fray. New Generation Warrior. In the afternoon, in the capital of Huamuxtitlán, in the Mountain region, several armed men disappeared former municipal president Aurelio Méndez Rosales. They took him out of his vehicle and murdered his driver. Hurricane forecasts portend bad omens for the largely poor population. The firepower of criminal groups and their interference in municipal governments are the disastrous hurricanes that threaten security and peace in Guerrero.
