Guillermo Alonso Díaz Benza, legal representative of the firm Construtex SA and nephew of the President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, would have allowed and accompanied the production of propaganda material in favor of the presidential candidate for the Concertación, Efraín Alegre, at the headquarters of the Paraguayan Road Chamber (Cavialpa).
The fact became known afters the viralization of a video where the candidate and his duo are seen, in the meeting room of the chamber, whose managers are not aware of what happened.
“Cavialpa is an independent entity, it does not have any official political position, but it is constituted as a platform to listen to proposals so that citizens can finally choose”, the engineer Joaquín Fernández, vice president of Cavialpa, assured La Nación/Nación Media, when asked about the use of the camera for proselytizing purposes.
Fernández emphasized that it is impossible for them to lean towards any candidate, “Because that is not the end of the organization.”
The Vice President of Cavialpa remarked that, He was not aware of the development of the video and reiterated that the institution does not officially assume any political-partisan ideology.
We tried to talk to Paul Sarubbi, the head of the guild, but he is out of the country, we were told.
The video was produced in the meeting room of the headquarters of the union of national construction companies and had been recorded without authorization from the Cavialpa board of directors, for which reason there is great discomfort in the union that, it announced, will publish a statement to establish a position on what happened.
