The President of the Republic, Mario Abdo Benítez, reiterated this Thursday in Hamburg (northern Germany) the role of “strategic partner” that our country can play with Germany in terms of green hydrogen production, the day after highlighting the Paraguayan potential in relation to that energy resource.

Abdo met in the German city with the mayor and president of the city-state, Peter Tschentscher, on the second day of his official visit to the country, and took the opportunity to underline Paraguay’s interest in fostering a special relationship in this area.
The Paraguayan president highlighted before Tschentscher “very competitive prices and abundant resources” of the country in terms of green hydrogen, “which would make it a strategic partner” of Germany, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic.
Both parties agreed “carry out joint tasks with a view to promoting the production of green hydrogen and, as the next step of action, the technical instances of both parties would initiate talks”, added the official statement.
With the mayor-president of Hamburg, Abdo addressed issues on the international agenda and both pointed out that the visit “It helps to strengthen and deepen relations between Paraguay and Germany. Opportunities are sought to intensify and promote joint work in areas of common interest”, according to the presidency

Both parties also highlighted “the relevance of German investments for the economic development of Paraguay, and above all the conditions of stability, the competitive advantages, the growth of the economy, the improvement of connectivity, and the successful experience of those who invest in the country”.
The meeting in Hamburg also addressed the issue of the pending agreement between Mercosur and the European Union, “which will strengthen and bring benefits to both countries of one and the other bloc.”
At the end of the second day of his visit to Germany President Abdo participated in the Day of Latin America, an event organized in the Hanseatic city in which representatives of German and Latin American companies participated.
On the first day of the official trip to Germany Abdo had met this Wednesday with the federal president, Frank-Walter Steinmeier, before which he already highlighted the interest in cooperating in matters related to renewable energies, especially in the field of green hydrogen production.

In the meeting with Steinmeier, Paraguay’s position as a “producer of 100% free and renewable energy, and the interest in working especially on green hydrogen and renewable energy” was highlighted.
In the interview between the two “The interest in continuing to work with a view to establishing a mechanism and a joint roadmap to promote the green hydrogen industry was discussed”, according to the official note distributed after the meeting.
With Steinmeier, the Paraguayan president addressed other issues, such as the Bioceanic Corridor, Paraguayan meat and the MERCOSUR-EU agreement.
The German president thanked, according to official Paraguayan sources, “Paraguay’s position in relation to the attacks on Ukraine, the defense of the fundamental principles and values of international law, despite Russia being the second buyer of meat from Paraguay.”
President During his visit to Germany, Abdo highlighted the work of the German community in Paraguay, and the celebrations on the occasion of the 100 years of the Neuland Colony in the Paraguayan Chaco, emphasizing the historical ties that unite both countries.
Regarding the Mercosur EU Bi-regional Association Agreement, Paraguay stated in Berlin that it is ready to sign and Germany assured that it would do its best to work together with Spain in order to achieve prompt subscription, if possible, in the second half of 2023.
