President Mario Abdo Benítez announced on social networks that he received the visit by Brian Nelson, Under Secretary for Terrorism and Financial Intelligence at the US Department of the Treasury.
“Occasion in which we renew our mutual cooperation commitments to combat money laundering and the financing of terrorism,” the national president posted on his social networks.
This meeting takes place only 15 days after leaking a report from the Secretariat for the Prevention of Money Laundering (Seprelad) that links Horacio Cartes, former national president, with money laundering crimes.
“It was great to sit down with President Mario Abdo Benítez today. The United States and Paraguay share a strong commitment to counter money laundering and the financing of terrorism,” was Brian Nelson’s post after the meeting.
