The president of the PIT-CNT, Marcelo Abdala, appeared before the Secretariat of the trade union center to apologize for having been involved in a traffic accident in Punta Carretas with 1.53 grams of alcohol in his blood, while in Uruguay the law orders tolerance zero.

“We recognize the error and we are moved by the words of human support. Since I was 16 years old I took on the fight for the emancipation of the working class and I have received the characterization of being a consistent person, supportive and a good companion. Nor does my pulse tremble when it comes to having complex situations of confrontation with the forces of reaction to defend our interests”, Abdala expressed in front of the Secretariat.

He added that “throughout life, always”, he has behaved “with an ethic of responsibility”, knowing that “the things one does generate consequences”.

“I assume all the consequences of what I did. We wanted to come to show our faces briefly, criticize ourselves and apologize to our colleagues. And let them know that under no circumstances am I going to stop being a fighter, but because of how important the collective of the labor movement is to me, I am requesting a license that has already been considered by the Secretariat to attend to some matters of a personal nature”, expressed the union leader.

Abdala will continue on leave and the deadline for his return has not been set.
