Augusto Álvarez Rodrich analyzed the statements of President Dina Boluarte about her permanence in the presidency, in the context of the increase in demonstrations.
During her pronouncement, the president assured that she will not resign. Given this, Álvarez Rodrich asserted the following: “It must be noted that the presidency of Dina Boluarte is a weak presidency.”
He also referred to an IEP survey about the approval of the head of state. According to the study, 71% of Peruvians disapprove of the way in which the president is conducting her government and 80% disagree that she has assumed the presidency of Peru.
“There is a problem and it is that the Constitution established that Mrs. Dina Boluarte was the person who should replace Pedro Castillo if he had to be vacated, as he correctly was, because he became a violator of the Constitution,” he said.
On the other hand, he commented that, according to the same survey, 60% of Peruvians consider that the protests are justified. And, about Congress, 88% of Peruvians reject it.
Finally, he concluded that he maintains the opinion that the head of state should not resign.
“What can happen is that Dina Boluarte resists or not. I think the best thing would be for her to stay until the end of the process. There is no more time for reforms. The country is burning, but I think it would be worse if Dina leaves the presidency, “she said.
