Augusto Alvarez Rodrich commented on the recent speech of the president Dina Boluarte, in which he refers to the economic context of his Government. In the first place, the journalist made a contrast with the management of ex-president Pedro Castillo and the statements that he gave in this regard.
“It must be appreciated that there is undoubtedly a change in discourse. The speeches that Pedro Castillo gave, on economic matters, were a way of scaring away private investment. Permanent changes of course, he was more confused, from time to time expropriations occurred to him and other atrocities (…). The truth is that in economic terms, I must say that the government of Pedro Castillo was an absolute jerk,” he declared.
He also referred to the projections of the economy for 2023: “The economic projection for this year is bad, at most with 2% growth.”
He also spoke about how the economic situation has been changing since the political crisis began. On this, he said that the coup caused a great loss of confidence to invest and that the main risk for businessmen is the intensification of social conflicts.
After this, there is the progress of the convocation of a constituent assembly and the increase in the popularity or notoriety of radical candidates, such as Antauro Humala.
Finally, he expressed the importance of maintaining a balanced economy and that the president’s speech be transferred to forceful action to achieve everything she stated.
“The economy plays a crucial role in being able to move forward with families’ sense of process, so that they have the possibility of having a job, income to fulfill their dreams, the education of their children and living a little better. It is fundamental and for that is investment. Investment requires legal and political stability; then, Mrs. Boluarte’s message seems very good to me, but that must be translated into concrete facts. But I believe that today Peru, in this investment sphere, is much better than three months ago”, he concluded.
