The commemoration of International Workers’ Day is once again in person, after two years of pandemic and virtuality. Although the PIT-CNT will carry out acts in different departments, the central act will take place on Avenida del Libertador corner Valparaiso.
The speakers will be: the general secretary of the PIT-CNT, Elbia Pereira; the head of the Human Rights Secretariat of the trade union movement, Fernanda Aguirre, and the president of the trade union center, Marcelo Abdala.
The slogan for this May 1 is: “Against hunger and famine. For work, salary and in defense of social security”.
Within the framework of the oratory, the trade union center will place special emphasis on defending the interests of the working class that lives on their salary, because the advance announced by the national government is not enough. “The people cannot continue to lose income while retirement and pensions yield less and less as a result of the famine.”
Another aspect is the need to create genuine sources of work, the defense of social security, before the reform project that the Executive is analyzing and, as is tradition, for truth, memory, justice and never again State terrorism.
Caravan
Prior to the act, which will begin at 11 am, there will be three caravans that will have as their starting point the squares: Huelga General, Colón and Lafone. The caravans will converge at the Legislative Palace and then reach the podium that will be located on Avenida del Libertador and Valparaíso.
In order that no one is left without participating in the commemoration of May 1, the PIT-CNT will make available to those who cannot attend by their own means, a series of buses that will leave at 8:30 am from different points of the capital.
