A woman is murdered in the South Caribbean, when she was at home with a minor

The lifeless body of a woman, identified as yaritza martinez, was found at his home, located in the Blue Lagoon community, El Pedregal, in the municipality of Laguna de Perlas, in the South Caribbean. Sources point out that she was murdered by more than two subjects, and that at the time of the event, the victim was in the company of a minor.

An unofficial version indicates that the objective was to rob the 20-year-old woman, who, according to what they say, was a “very active merchant in the area”; Her body was buried on Sunday, April 21, in the municipal cemetery.

“They are killing us,” denounced the women of the South Caribbean, while the Police are caught up in the cases and fail to react in time or do not report due to negligence. On the death of Martínez, as in other events, they have also been silent.

According to journalistic reports, the attacks have occurred at night and in the homes of the victims. “It is serious that they are not even safe in their homes,” notes a human rights defender from this part of the country, who asks to speak on condition of anonymity for fear of political reprisals.

Feminist organizations have reported that so far in the first five months of 2023, there have been 40 murders against women in Nicaragua.

Given the increase in femicides in the country, a lawyer and feminist calls on the regime for the closure of organizations that promote women’s rights in Nicaragua, who dedicated efforts to accompany victims of violence to file a complaint and achieve justice before their attackers.

“If before there were three organizations that assisted women in the territories to file a complaint or psychological accompaniment, now there is absolutely nothing. The community fabric does not exist. The women defenders have had to go into exile due to the fierce persecution against civil organizations in the country,” lamented the specialist.

In his opinion, the Caribbean Coast needs special attention, an in-depth investigation that explains the violence and also elements to be able to counteract it. “Violence is on the rise,” he warns.

For her part, a sociologist who pointed out that “the Caribbean is highly poor and rural, where there is no specialized care and thus carry out exhaustive research.”
