MADRID, Spain.- A woman lost her life after a traffic accident that occurred this Tuesday on the Malecón in Havana, near the United States Embassy. The accident involved a car and a truck, according to eyewitnesses through social networks.
The first information about the fact was spread by the user Alex Ríos Cruz, who reported the collision between both vehicles and noted that several people were injured. In his publication he also indicated that, according to comments heard at the scene, a death could have occurred, something that was not confirmed at that time. The message also indicated that workers linked to Artex and the Culture sector were traveling in the vehicles.
Later, Yordankis Alonso, who identified himself as a relative of the victim, confirmed in a comment that a cousin of his died as a result of the accident. According to his testimony, the car in which the woman was traveling lost control on a curve and moved into the opposite lane, where it was hit by a white vehicle. The crash occurred on the passenger side, the seat occupied by the deceased.

After the event was disseminated, several Internet users reported recurring problems in that area of Havana’s Malecon and noted excessive speed, dangerous maneuvers and violations of traffic rules as common. These events are part of a context marked by the repetition of traffic accidents in Cuba, a phenomenon that continues to have a high impact on mortality in the country. Official data place road accidents among the main causes of death. Between January and August 2025, 502 deaths were recorded, a figure that constitutes the majority of victims recorded in 2024, a year that closed with 634 deaths and more than 6,600 injured people. Among the most highlighted factors are the deterioration of the road network, the aging of the vehicle fleet and behaviors associated with reckless driving and non-compliance with traffic regulations.
